True or false: is the information there or not?
By the end of this lesson you can decide whether a piece of information is in the text (true) or is different or missing (false).
5 min · Level B1
True (vero) = the text gives this information, even in other words. False (falso) = the text says something different or says nothing about it.
So «maybe it's true» is not enough: if you can't find the evidence in the text, the answer is falso. Don't use what you know about Italy or what seems normal to you: only the text counts. Usually the statements follow the order of the text.
In CILS B1 Cittadinanza true/false appears in reading (12 statements on one text) and in listening (2 texts, 6 statements each). The task asks whether the information is present or not. Each right answer is worth 0.5 points; a wrong or blank answer is worth 0.
In CELI 2 i Cittadinanza a similar task is in listening: an interview and 8 statements. You have to say whether each piece of information is present or not.
In CERT.IT B1 the reading section has a true/false task with 6 statements.

Common mistakes
✗ La frase usa le parole del testo, quindi è vera.→ La frase dice la stessa cosa del testo, quindi è vera.
A false statement can copy many words from the text and change only one (tutti instead of alcuni). Check the meaning, not the words.
✗ Il testo non lo dice, ma è probabile: vero.→ Il testo non lo dice: falso.
Vero means that the information is in the text. If you have to imagine it or you know it from somewhere else, the answer is falso.
✗ «Non è necessario prenotare» = è vietato prenotare.→ «Non è necessario prenotare» = puoi prenotare, ma non è obbligatorio.
Non è necessario, non serve and non è obbligatorio say that you can do something but you don't have to. È vietato and non si può say that something is not allowed.
